Warp and Woof: A Dynamic Tea Table by Omid MohammadiRevolutionizing Furniture Design with Interactive Marble Pieces
Unveiling the Warp and Woof, a unique tea table designed by Omid Mohammadi. This innovative piece of furniture features 154 small green marble pieces that flow dynamically on the table surface, allowing users to interact and personalize the surface pattern. The design draws inspiration from the old Persian "Gabbeh" used as the cover of traditional Persian table "Korsi" during "Yalda" nights.
The Warp and Woof tea table stands out for its unique properties. The neutral mono-color gray of the base structure is designed to focus attention on the matte and its identic Persian green marble texture. The dynamic surface pattern, including the thin light linear metal structure, creates different light effects on the ground, adding to the table's aesthetic appeal.
Realizing the transformable marble stones in the linear metal structure was a significant challenge. The table is designed to be easily assembled in 3 separable metal frame pieces, which contain the 154 CNC pieces of stones that are categorized into 5 base modules. This innovative design approach allows for a high level of user interaction, making the table not just a piece of furniture, but a personalized design experience.
The design phase for the Warp and Woof started in February 2019 in Milan, Italy, under the supervision of Studio Italo Rota and Alessandro Pedretti. It was realized in Tehran in August 2019 and exhibited in October 2019 in Tehran. The design draws inspiration from the tradition of "Shab-e Chelleh/Yalda," the longest and darkest night of the year in Persian culture, when customs were intended to protect people from evil.
The Warp and Woof tea table has garnered significant recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Iron in A' Furniture Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The award recognizes the table's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
